International Contest for Tapestry Design
The Tapestry Contest has been nurtured since 1961 and is one of the best ways to enrich the collection of Atelier 61. The contest is international and its purpose is to preserve, develop and popularize tapestry as an authentic and autonomous visual medium. The proposals for participating in the contest are specified by the Arts Council of Atelier 61, whose members evaluate the tapestry in the contest, by setting high standards that demand originality of ideas. By the cartoons of authors awarded tapestries are made in the workshop of Atelier 61 in the material and weaving techniques on vertical loom suggested by the author. Completed tapestries become part of the Tapestry Collection of Atelier 61.
